7-Day GERD Diet Meal Plan

According to StatPearls, around 20% of U.S. individuals suffer with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

GERD, sometimes known as heartburn or reflux, can cause significant discomfort and disruption. Though persons suffering from GERD or heartburn should contact their primary care physician,

some lifestyle adjustments and food choices may help alleviate GERD symptoms. In this plan, we provide a week's worth of meals

and snacks that contain foods linked to relieving acid reflux while limiting those that may exacerbate symptoms.

A 2021 study published in Visceral Medicine found that losing weight can reduce GERD symptoms in obese persons.

To aid in weight loss, we set this plan at 1,500 calories per day, with variations for 1,200 and 2,000 calories per day to accommodate persons with varying calorie requirements.

According to the American College of Gastroenterology, GERD is a chronic illness in which stomach contents, such as acid, move up into the esophagus.

If not treated, the symptoms can be severe and lead to esophageal injury. Though almost everyone will experience acid reflux or heartburn on occasion,
